Bernoulli's equation:
P + ½ρv² + ρgh = constant
Terminal velocity:
v_t = 2r²(ρ−σ)g / 9η
Surface tension force:
F = T × 2l (for film)
Solved Numerical Examples
Example 1
Problem: Water flows through a horizontal pipe of varying cross-section. At point A, the area is 0.02 m² and velocity is 2 m/s. Find the velocity at point B where the area is 0.01 m².
Solution: By the equation of continuity, A₁v₁ = A₂v₂. So, 0.02 × 2 = 0.01 × v₂. v₂ = 0.04 / 0.01 = 4 m/s.
Example 2
Problem: Calculate the pressure at a depth of 10 m in water. (Atmospheric pressure P₀ = 1.01 × 10^5 Pa, density of water = 1000 kg/m³, g = 9.8 m/s²)
Solution: Pressure P = P₀ + ρgh. P = 1.01 × 10^5 + (1000 × 9.8 × 10). P = 1.01 × 10^5 + 0.98 × 10^5 = 1.99 × 10^5 Pa.
