Important Formulas
Work done:
W = F·s·cosθ
Kinetic energy:
KE = ½mv²
Work-energy theorem:
W_net = ΔKE
Power:
P = W/t = F·v
Solved Numerical Examples
Example 1
Problem: A force of 50 N acts on a body and moves it through a distance of 4 m at an angle of 60° to the direction of force. Calculate the work done.
Solution: Work W = F·s·cosθ. Here F = 50 N, s = 4 m, θ = 60°. W = 50 × 4 × cos(60°) = 200 × 0.5 = 100 J.
Example 2
Problem: A machine does 2400 J of work in 1 minute. What is its power output?
Solution: Power P = Work / Time. W = 2400 J, t = 60 s. P = 2400 / 60 = 40 W.
